The company currently has two diamond exploration projects under way in Quebec, the Nottaway diamond project, south of James Bay, and the Mistassini diamond project, part of the Otish Mountain area play. Nottaway diamond project In recent weeks the company has added substantially to its land position in the Nottaway River region of the James Bay lowlands where the company has been exploring for the past two years. The project exploration area now covers a region approximately 30 kilometres wide that extends from the Ontario border 130 kilometres east to the highway that runs north from Matagami to Wemindji. The Nottaway diamond project consists of three sectors: Nottaway Central, Nottaway East and Nottaway West. The project is 100 per cent owned by the company. The Nottaway Central block consists of Poplar's original claim area, staked in September, 2000. This block includes 160 claims over 46 distinct geophysical bull's-eye targets. The total area held under licence now covers 5,300 hectares or 13,000 acres. Recently, an additional 32 claims were applied for over six more targets. All these targets were identified using a detailed aeromagnetic survey. A total of 144 claims have been applied for in the Nottaway West block. This block includes 24 targets covering approximately 7,400 hectares or 18,300 acres. In addition, 144 claims have been applied for in the Nottaway East block, which also numbers 24 targets covering the same size area. The targets have been selected primarily on the basis of airborne geophysical data. Electron microprobe results have been received for the indicator minerals from the first batch of 20 till samples processed by Overburden Drilling Management (ODM) in Ottawa. This batch is from a total of 80 till and stream samples gathered in the Nottaway Central block in September, 2001. The probe work was conducted by R.L. Barnett, London, Ont. The results confirm the kimberlitic origin of the chrome-pyropes, chrome diopsides, ilmenites and chromites. The pyropes recovered to date plot in the G-9 field (Gurney, 1984). The company has also received the processing results from the second batch of 20 heavy mineral samples from streams in the Nottaway Central block. The samples were processed by ODM. Kimberlite indicator minerals including pyropes, ilmenites, chrome diopsides and chromites have been recovered. The indicator minerals are currently being probed to identify their chemistry and the results will be released shortly. Results from two more batches of samples are expected shortly from ODM. Any indicator minerals recovered will be sent directly for microprobe analysis. The company is highly encouraged by these results from this sampling program as they help confirm the prospectivity of this region of Quebec. Subsequent to Poplar's staking and announcement of indicator mineral results, Majescor Resources and other companies have also now staked claims in the area. Mistassini diamond project The company's second project area is the Mistassini diamond project. It is located on the northwestern shores of Lake Mistassini and is part of the larger Otish Mountain area play where Ashton Mining has discovered the Renard diamondiferous kimberlites. Poplar has applied for 313 claims over 73 targets in this area. The claim applications cover an area of approximately 16,200 hectares, or 40,000 acres in size, in a project area that extends about 100 kilometres in length by 60 kilometres in width. This project is also 100 per cent owned by Poplar.
