What is truly damning is the hypocrisy of our policy on Iraq before and after 1991.

Before the Gulf War, we sell Saddam whatever he wants:

<<< By the way, where did Saddam get all those "weapons of mass destruction"? Amy
Goodman, host of the radio show Democracy NOW! said on the air on February
13, 1998 that Henry Gonzales, then House Banking Committee Chair, on July 27th,
in a 1992 floor speech, said the Bush administration deliberately helped to arm Iraq
by allowing US companies to sell to Iraqi military and defense factories, and went
on to say there was a full-court coverup of this. There were 18 US companies. A
few examples: Honeywell sold fuel air explosives. Hewlett Packard, sold
computers for the Iraqi Atomic Energy commission, and sold electronic test
equipment directly to Iraqi weapons facilities. Rockwell, Honeywell and Hewlett
Packard all sold high performance electronics to the major Iraqi missile plant.
International Imaging Systems sold imaging technology for missile programs.
Tectronics sold computer graphic terminals for missile center. Vetco sold vacuum
pumps and bellows for nuclear weapons plants. Swift Lebec supplied magnets for
nuclear weapons plants. American Live Cultures sold bacterial research to the Iraqi
ministry of defense. >>>

<<< According to a Senate Committee Report of 1994 {1}: From 1985, if not earlier, through 1989, a veritable witch's brew of biological materials were exported to Iraq by private American suppliers pursuant to application and licensing by the U.S. Department of Commerce. Amongst these materials, which often produce slow, agonizing deaths, were: Bacillus Anthracis, cause of anthrax. Clostridium Botulinum, a source of botulinum toxin. Histoplasma Capsulatam, cause of a disease attacking lungs, brain, spinal cord and heart. Brucella Melitensis, a bacteria that can damage major organs. Clotsridium Perfringens, a highly toxic bacteria causing systemic illness. Clostridium tetani, highly toxigenic Also, Escherichia Coli (E.Coli); genetic materials; human and bacterial DNA. Dozens of other pathogenic biological agents were shipped to Iraq during the 1980s. The Senate Report pointed out: "These biological materials were not attenuated or weakened and were capable of reproduction." "It was later learned," the committee revealed, "that these microorganisms exported by the United States were identical to those the United Nations inspectors found and removed from the Iraqi biological warfare program." These exports continued to at least November 28, 1989 despite the fact that Iraq had been reported to be engaging in chemical warfare and possibly biological warfare against Iranians, Kurds, and Shiites since the early 80s. >>>

During the Gulf War, we dump 40 tons of depleted uranium on the battlefields of Iraq and Kuwait, and target water supplies in our bombing campaign.

After the Gulf War, we put such a tight noose around Iraq that they can't even get the basic chemicals to clean their water.
