Pete it's funny how you call me an IA-64 supporter meanwhile at the Intel thread I am an AMDroid. This goes to show how polarized these threads are. Anyway, I will summarily dismiss your long diatribe about how hammer will compete with IA-64 since no OEMs will go with the hammer on the enterprise in the foreseeable future and even AMD has not made a claim that they will target that market. I still think hammer will be a killer cpu but if Intel can produce a fully functional 64-bit P4 within 12 months of the Hammer release I am confident it will be either incompatible with the hammer or it will have additional extensions. If Intel cannot produce the P4 within 12 months of the Hammer release then they may contemplate compatibility. I am sure their mind is already set and since we know Intel likes proprietary technologies and they would never stoop to the point where they have to use AMD's technology I KNOW Yamhill will not be a clone of x86-64.

C

p.s. I still think the the hammer and P-64 has nothing to do with IA-64. That may live or die based on its own merits or deficits.

Precisely! It's like the Video player wars. BETA or VHS.

BETA was better but VHS more mainstream.

Peter, IA64 has nothing to do with AMD vs. Intel, so give it a rest. You're obsessing about an architecture with 0% market share.
