Simmons has decided to call any field with over 100,000 b/d a giant field in his new tally. By this criterion there are
120 or so of them. Fourteen of these produce over 500,000 b/d (4 in Russia) and of these 4 over 1,000,000 b/d. The average Russian well produces 160 b/d. These giant fields are in Western Siberia. Stamoltor, which at one time produced 3.5 million b/d is now producing about 300,000 b/d. All are in secondary recovery.

Still, Putin has stabilized the country and new investment is pouring into the oil industry. Hence they will be able to increase production for a few years. Depletion in other parts of the world will counter this. Mexico is on the brink and so it would appear is Venezuela.
