RTS, I don't currently trade the SMH. I was just reading the posts here and went over to the AMEX site to take a closer look at the HOLDRS where I ran across the note about being exempt from the short sale rule. Although I get around the up-tick rule for the vast majority of my plays because I control significant long positions in AMAT, I don't feel the restriction is much of a factor for such an active stock.
