I guess we should be expected to believe a sell-side analyst when we cannot even believe certified and bonded auditors.

That bonding is a sham. The real protect came in the liability protections extended to the CPAs by Congress in 1995. As you probably know, but others may not, CPAs are statutorily protected from tort actions for malfeasance or fraud. Lovely racket they've worked up for themselves alright.
