Saddam is a risk, one which the US can not afford after 9/11. I don't think the Iraqis had anything to do with 9/11. We're not going to give Saddam an opportunity to capitalize on his WMD Ace. He has biological, chemical, and enough nuclear material certainly to make a radiological bomb or ten. He has demonstrated an eager willingness to sell knowledge to those who oppose the US, even when there is no strategic advantage to himself -- witness the exchange of US air tactics knowledge and Serbian air defence equipment during the Kosovo affair. First, settle old scores. Second, eliminate Iraq as a source of dangerous weapons to international terrorism. Third, concretize the War on Terror on another nation-state, buying us time for the REAL WAR in the shadows. Iraq is vengeance, and a sideshow for public consumption. Keeps Americans from getting bored with the whole terrorism thing. And keeps Bush's ratings up, to boot.stratfor.com "The United States' allies, particularly in Europe, do not understand American thinking at this point. From their point of view, the attacks of Sept. 11, the threat of future attacks and the strange war upon which the United States has embarked are merely one strand in the fabric of international relations. Life goes on, with the normal protocols of a peacetime relationship in place. From the U.S. point of view, an extraordinary and unprecedented state of emergency exists in which the most fundamental American interests are at stake. The normal state of affairs has been suspended. The Europeans say, "Surely you don't expect us to simply rubber-stamp your decisions?" The Americans answer, "Surely you don't expect us to spend our time trying to convince you to stand by us?" Derek
