The longer you can wait the better. My preference for a VZ 3G phone is the Sharp 3G model. It is BREW enabled - picture on slide #37 on the slide show.

In absence of that, does someone know if a phone is available from Verizon that is 1X and 911-location ready? If not, how about just 911-location ready?

None of the models currently available have both GPS One and 1X. The only one in the US with GPS One is the Samsung SCH N300, but that's a slower chip. None of the 1X models available at either Sprint or Verizon have the GPS capability-- I just went through a similar search process.
