Two PowerEdge Servers Bring New Technologies to Enterprise Customers
AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 18, 2002--Dell (Nasdaq:DELL - news) today announced two new enterprise servers that offer the power and reliability to manage business computing needs, with the exceptional value customers have come to expect from Dell.
The PowerEdge(tm) 1650 and PowerEdge(tm) 4600 servers offer several industry firsts, including new technologies to support mission-critical database, e-mail, security and file/print applications. The PowerEdge 1650 is the first tier one server to offer enterprise-level features of hot-plug redundant power and fans, all in a 1.75-inch tall package that is ideal for space-constrained data-centers. The PowerEdge 4600 features Intel's latest Xeon processors and is the first server to offer the ServerWorks(tm) Grand Champion HE (GC-HE) SystemI/O(tm) chipset for faster overall system performance.
Both PowerEdge servers are equipped with Dell's portfolio of OpenManage(tm) tools, which enable a company to better manage its systems, helping to reduce its total cost of ownership. To enable remote management, the PowerEdge 4600 offers customers a Dell Remote Assistant Card (DRAC III) enabling out of band management and power-up capabilities in the event the server goes down. The PowerEdge 1650 offers the choice of either DRAC III or an optional Embedded Remote Access (ERA) feature that offers remote management at a lower cost.
``Dell is known for developing enterprise servers that address the unique requirements of our customers and then offering the systems at industry leading prices,'' said Randy Groves, vice president of Dell's Enterprise Systems Group. ``When combined with Dell's software and services expertise, these new PowerEdge servers deliver the performance, availability and scalability required for today's Internet-intensive, business-critical computing needs.''
The Dell PowerEdge 1650
The PowerEdge 1650 supports dual Intel® Pentium® III processors, up to 4GB of memory, three hot-plug, SCSI hard drives, hot-plug redundant power supplies and fans, dual embedded Gigabit network interface cards, an embedded RAID option and remote management. These competitive features allow the PowerEdge 1650 to be used not only for network infrastructure or Internet applications, such as Web-hosting, but also to run a broad range of applications including Microsoft® Commerce Server or a Microsoft Exchange node in a storage area network (SAN). The PowerEdge 1650 also will be available as a Microsoft Windows® Powered or Red Hat® Linux Web server appliance.
Dell PowerEdge 4600
The PowerEdge 4600 features one or two Intel Xeon(tm) processors at speeds of up to 2.2GHz with a 400MHz front-side bus and support for up to ten hard disk drives for an internal storage capacity of up to 730GB. Customers will benefit from the high-speed memory access and performance improvements of the ServerWorks GC-HE chipset. With hot-plug disk drives and PCI-X slots, hot-plug redundant fans and power supplies, robust system monitoring and notification features, clustering capabilities and an optional embedded RAID card with battery-backed cache, customers have the investment protection and data recovery features needed for high availability, data-intensive environments.
The PowerEdge 1650 and 4600 are available with factory installation of Microsoft® Windows® 2000 Server, Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server, Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 and Red Hat Linux 7.2. The new servers are also certified and validated for Novell® NetWare®.
Dell also offers customers a diverse suite of enterprise computing services for rapid deployment and system uptime. Services available for the PowerEdge servers include Custom Factory Integration of operating systems and software applications, onsite server installation, next-business-day response and 7x24 direct line software support of operating systems, systems management and select Microsoft applications.
The PowerEdge 1650 and PowerEdge 4600 servers are available worldwide with prices starting at $1,699 and $3,499, respectively. Additional information on the new Dell servers is available at www.dell.com/poweredge.
