Italian Americans, German Americans, Polish Americans, Jewish Americans, Mexican Americans, Puerto Rican Americans, Russian Americans, Greek Americans, Arab Americans, Afro Americans, Cuban Americans, all consider themselves to be both American and ethnic. Only an idiot would deny them the previlage of relishing in the pride that is each of our own's history. We all are better off because of this duality.

Lots of people identify themselves ethnically based on what their ancestors were. People might say "I'm Irish" (meaning Irish-American) for example even if their ancestors have been American for 150 years. What does it matter? It doesn't really.
