Jerome,

I plan on going; I had to cancel a trip to Macchu Piccu on Sept 14th because my plane was canceled(and the family was very concerned since I would have been out of contact for quite awhile). I do not intend on having a repeat occur. I have been to Nepal twice in the past 5 years(both times when Maoists were active, though not to the degree we have witnessed recently) and never felt threatened in any way. Anyone who thinks for a second that our economy is in trouble should take a look over there....their economy is in shambles since it derives a large portion of revenues from tourism and these past two years have not been good ones for Nepal. I am sure that there are many 1st timers canceling because of the headlines from this weekend. But from talking to people who live there, I can honestly say that I feel fine going there. Should something bad happen, so be it. No adventure is without risk, there are no guarantees, it's simply a case of assessing those risks and not taking any pointless ones. I will not take unnecessary risks, but at the same time I have no intention of living my life not trusting other people. The vast majority(99%) of the worlds people are simply going about their lives trying to provide for their family.

If Sept 11th taught me anything, it is that it is terrible to live ones life in fear.

Regards,

Brian

PS. I leave March 18th, exactly four weeks from today:-))
