PT: At first I was concerned that there may not be enough PC2700 available for synchronous (and highest performing) systems with 2x166MHz FSB. However, PW has 4 full pages of 256MB with an first page average of $74 vs 22 pages of PC2100 w/ avg of $56. So, the memory seems to be there. Who is using PC2700 at the moment, especially since it isn't per a JEDEC standard so could have noise/compatibility problems?

Going by past measurements (2x100MHz -> 2x133MHz, as well as PC100 -> PC133), using 2x166MHz FSB (async) with PC2100 memory would yield almost identical performance to (sync)2x133MHz and PC2100. I.e. the gain from the higher FSB roughly offsets the performance loss by going async.

Conclusion: There's really no need for "enough" PC2700 initially.

Mr. Chen suggests that buyers demanding utmost system stability delay purchases for PC2700 DIMMs until module availability occurs later this year for memory based upon JEDEC's new DDR333 DIMM standard. This specification includes the new DDR333 PCB (Printed Circuit Board) design.

One thing Rambus has at least done is get JEDEC off its *ss. Still, the DDR333 standard should have been in place at least 6 months ago. There's simply no excuse for being so slow.

Which reminds me&#133 How's the DDRII spec going?
