I'm up on econometrics - that's what I do much of the time, but I can find mathematics aimed at people from other disciplines hard going. Each discipline has its own statistical and mathematical language and concepts. Theoretical econometrics often (usually) gets beyond me too. Sounds like you might be stronger than me on the theoretical side. I did some spectral analysis of stock prices, but that is not an area I know much about. I could pick out a 10 day cycle but not much else. I am very skeptical about all this cycle stuff people mention on SI. Cycles in stocks are stochastic not deterministic except maybe that 10 day one.
