Speaking of booms, busts, and cod, which we were, New Scientist is predicting the collapse of the entire North Atlantic fishery. I am linking to freerepublic.com because the comments really amuse me, in a sick and twisted way.

CB, I read the article and the comments. I think that people tend to assume the best case scenario for the environment, just like they do with stocks. Unfortunately, nature's correction mechanisms are just as harsh as the stock markets. If we max out earth's human population and use every resource to the utmost, then we have no room for error when things go wrong.

I'm glad I live in the North Pacific where the fisheries are doing better, but I'm afraid we could eventually head down the same path as the North Atlantic.
