C'est drole
or
Say Dole

I see that you have produced a real beauty of a pineapple, I enjoy that. In many cases the cultural traditions of aboriginal peoples were largely destroyed as new patterns were imposed from without. The injustices encountered when one explores history are often unfathomable.

The Hawaiians have a saying

I ka `oAE8lelo no ke ola; I ka `oAE8lelo no ka make.

In the language rests life; In the language rests death.

In order to get some idea of what Hawaii means to the American people you should read this link

hawaii-nation.org

The name Dole came to Hawaii with the son of Wigglesworth Dole, Daniel, one of the first missionaries to Hawaii. Daniel's son, Sanford Ballard Dole became the first governor of Hawaii, reluctantly. Sanford's nephew, James Drummond Dole came to Hawaii in 1901 and purchased a plot of land at auction on which he began to grow pineapples, eventually Jim Dole would become the Pineapple King. Sanford Dole did acquire land at some point between 1871 - 1878 but the Dole Food Company claim that they were started in 1851 is not true, the company that was started in 1851 was Castle and Cooke, one of the "Big Five."

Hey marcos and Graystone...

Hope all is well with the both of you...

Got a red hot stock "tip" for you guys... Fresh off my little pea-sized brain...

Seems that there is this well-known Canadian company named Bombardier, Inc. Until last week, I had never heard of 'em, which is not surprising, since I don't really follow Canadian stocks that don't trade on a USA exchange.

Well, as the story goes, a friend of mine asked me to check out some company from Vancouver that's trying to corner the market on silver (still in the ground, mind you), Silver something or other. In the course of researching Silver something, I came across Bombardier, Inc. As I said, up until this point I had never heard of the company or the stock.

Fast-forward now to this past Monday morning. My wife and I had spent the holiday weekend (President's Day in the USA) in Reno with friends. As we're checking out of the Silver Legacy Hotel, guess which Canadian firm is beginning a company conference in Reno? Yep, Bombardier, Inc... Remember, a week ago I had never heard of this company.

So the story continues... After a short plane trip, we get home on Monday evening. I immediately sit down at the old PC, to catch up on recent posts I missed, back-logged e-mails, and to update my various stock packages with the latest market data. After finishing all of the downloads, I run my various filters against the stock data, to create various reports of under-valued stocks, or potential growth stocks, or stocks with high dividend yields, etc... Guess what? Bombardier, Inc. shows up as the top-ranked stock for both growth and value. I swear. A week ago, I never heard of them, and now 3 times in one week I lay my eyes upon their good name.

So what-the-hey... I'll research 'em... Probably just another statistical fluke... Happens all the time... But, no.... They're a real company. In fact, a fairly good company... They've suffered in the economic downturn, like everyone else, and they're hit doubly hard given the events of 9/11. But fundamentals research would seem to indicate that perhaps they've been unfairly treated by the markets. In fact, they look like a pretty good place to squirrel away a few bucks for a rainy day, for if and when the markets turn around, Bombardier, Inc. looks like they'll be in a good position to participate in any rallies. The symbol is BBDB.TO...

So, if you believe in coincidences, or fate or whatever, there it is. Bombardier, Inc... If it traded in the USA, I'd buy a few shares myself, but because it's only offered on a Canadian exchange, and I don't want any foreign tax forms screwing up my tax filings, I'll pass on the opportunity for now, and instead offer it up for consideration to my cyber-friends north of the 49th Parallel...

Good luck, and remember that no stock is a sure thing. Do your own DD... Blah, blah, blah...

Kerry

PS - To stay on topic, nice move on Chiquita yesterday... <g>
