As I see it, Compaq and Intel placated the FTC by allowing non-exclusive access to the current Alpha architecture. Anyone that wishes can continue to manufacture these parts. However, I think that some of the more internal IP, including technology that was to be used for future cores (i.e. EV8) went exclusively to Intel. I realize you probably won't see it that way, but I suppose we'll have to wait and see what happens to IA-64, and whether any of the EV8 technology gets integrated. We'll also have to see what develops with IA-64 compilers, and whether they can get much more performance out of them.
