Journalists should give up the notion that they have no bias. That goes against human nature! I guess they're taught that at journalism school, but it really is an impossible thing to do. The silly idea of becoming a drone when reporting just doesn't work.

I'm not as cynical about that as you are. I agree that one cannot entirely eliminate bias. I'm willing to accept the bias that results from editorial decisions on what stories to cover, particularly now that there is such a variety of news sources. I don't accept, though, that a reporter cannot locate and include the full range of perspectives in his report without favoring one over the other. And reporters can certainly interview people on TV in a way that elicits the full story from the interviewee rather than starting to debate the interviewee as soon as he says something inconsistent with the reporter's bias. Active listening comes more easily to some than to others, but it's a skill that can be learned by everyone who wants it. I haven't given up on professional journalism as the standard.
