The SLA
or
The "Seed Liberation Army"

If you try to do things like that to pineapples you will be attacked. Many people are not aware that the pineapples have saved up enough money to hire a private militia. Any attempts to tamper with the pineapple genome result in attacks. You have to understand, up to 30% of pineapples will flower spontaneously and they like it that way.

In March 2000, a small plot of transgenic pineapples was vandalised at a field research site in Brisbane. As a result of the damage to the plants, the research has been set back by several months.
What was the nature of the attack and who carried it out? The attackers labelled themselves the "seed liberation army" yet they targeted plants with no seeds.
