Andreas: You mean when they will be available (hopefully later this quarter) AMD will release desktop Palominos with PowerNow! for the public?

Having a SFF mobile chip would eliminate (largely, if not completely) the need to use PowerNow! as a means of differentiating mobile and desktop chips.

However, there are still other issues slowing down PowerNow!'s migration to the desktop:

- Chipsets need to support PowerNow!
- Fans really should have a thermal sensor built in to get the full benefit of PowerNow! (low noise, in addition to low power consumption). There are a few available now (e.g. thermaltake.com ), but not the vast majority.

and the biggie…

- AMD needs to ensure that having PowerNow! available on the desktop doesn't hurt them in benchmarks. There is a performance hit when enabling these power saving techniques and "stupid benchmarkers" could easily screw up and put AMD's chips at a disadvantage.
