SAN FRANCISCO, Feb 19, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- NuvoStudios, Inc., the premier developer and distributor of wireless entertainment products, today announced the launch of six gaming titles developed for QUALCOMM Incorporated's (Nasdaq:QCOM) Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless(TM) (BREW(TM)) applications platform. These titles are targeted at a mass-market audience and include games everyone knows and loves such as BlackJack and Tic Tac Toe.

"Wireless devices are an ideal channel for mass-market style games, and our products offer a great consumer experience and they are expected to be strong performers in the market," said Dale Crowley, CEO of NuvoStudios. "The general consumer will be the largest market in the wireless game space, and with the BREW platform, Nuvo Studios is poised to capture a significant share of that market."

The first six games from NuvoStudios will be: BlackJack; Speed BlackJack, where players attempt to make five hands of 21 before the clock runs out; Tic Tac Toe; Link 'Em, a game similar to Tic Tac Toe but players connect four in a row; Brain Check, a game of memory; and Removi, a puzzle game. In addition to these six mass-market products, NuvoStudios has contributed to the creation of 10 games, all developed for the BREW platform, for internationally renowned publishers, including Mattel, Inc. and JAMDAT.

"The flexibility and stability of the BREW platform makes it a natural choice for us as we begin developing new applications to reach a new segment of customers," continued Crowley. "QUALCOMM provides great resources throughout the development process, enabling us to create quality applications. NuvoStudios has developed more than 100 games in its four years of existence. Having worked with Palm OS, Win CE, J2ME(TM) and other platforms, developing on the BREW platform has been a pleasant and rewarding experience."

"NuvoStudios is a great addition to the BREW Developer community," said Jan Lezny, senior director of developer relations for QUALCOMM Internet Services. "The NuvoStudios team of engineers, artists and producers is dedicated to creating the top interactive content in the marketplace. With the proliferation of BREW products and services throughout the world, end users will be able to enjoy a wealth of innovative content from quality developers like NuvoStudios."

QUALCOMM's BREW platform is a thin, standardized execution environment that resides in handsets. Native BREW applications are written in C/C++. While the BREW platform supports programming in other languages, such as Java(TM) and XML, C/C++ is used as the primary language by significantly more developers worldwide than any other language, according to International Data Corp. QUALCOMM's BREW initiative is the only approach that offers developers, OEMs and carriers a complete, end-to-end solution for wireless applications development, device configuration, application distribution, and billing and payment. The complete BREW solution includes the BREW Software Development Kit (SDK(TM)) for developers, the BREW applications platform and porting tools for device manufacturers, and the BREW Distribution System (BDS) that enables developers and their carrier customers to get applications to market and coordinates the billing and payment processes for them. Carriers' BREW-based services will enable consumers to customize their handsets by downloading applications over the air from a carrier's application download server. The BREW platform is a product of QUALCOMM Internet Services (QIS) division within the QUALCOMM Wireless & Internet (QWI) group of QUALCOMM Incorporated.

Hmmm... you get it totally wrong as usual, limtextile (I recommend other reading alongside the old QCOM press releases and Victoria´s Secret catalogues).

The Old Continent had continent wide, all roaming, all dancing wireless circuit switched data already back in early nineties. Now it is covered by GPRS. Our American brothers, well, (I´m trying to be generous here), er, they are doing their best here.
