You read the post that I made that included the executive bios, did you not? There was significant expertise there in compiler technology. You might have also caught the link that Paul or Tony posted here a week or so ago that announced new compiler developments for Itanium Architecture with a compiler technology group in China. Obviously, Intel disagrees with you, or else they would not have invested so much in compiler technology. IMHO, they haven't even scratched the surface of what Itanium is capable of doing. Too many people here want to call Itanium a joke and immediately write it off. I'm sure it didn't seem like a joke to the engineers that spent years developing the instruction set using brand new ideas and technology, and who spent many more years developing a product. New instruction sets don't come about so easily. I wouldn't be so eager to write it off until Intel has had a chance to optimize the software around it. After all, many of the other computer architectures have had decades worth of optimizations, while Itanium has only had a year or two since the first product hit the market. Give it some time, at least.
