SK Telecom Upgrades to Tekelec's EAGLE 5 Platform

MORRISVILLE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 19, 2002-- Tekelec (Nasdaq: TKLC) announced today that SK Telecom has upgraded to EAGLE® 5 Signaling Application Systems (SASs) and purchased the large system software feature, which enables the carrier to support more than 500 signaling links per network node.

SK Telecom is the largest wireless telecommunication services provider in Korea, serving more than 15 million subscribers. The purchase was facilitated through Mercury Corporation, Tekelec's distributor in Korea.

``With four pairs of EAGLE 5 SASs, Tekelec solutions will handle all the signaling traffic in SK Telecom's extensive and fast-growing network,'' said Dick Hayter, vice president of the Tekelec EAGLE business unit. ``Tekelec solutions will complete set up, tear down and other signaling services for all calls crossing the network. We are pleased that SK Telecom, the largest Korean wireless provider, has selected Tekelec to ensure network reliability and performance and address expansion requirements.''

SAN FRANCISCO, May 23 /PRNewswire/ -- WR Hambrecht + Co today initiated research coverage on Tekelec (Nasdaq: TKLC) with a Buy rating and a $16 price target. WR Hambrecht's Communications Infrastructure analyst Reginal King believes Tekelec, with a strong balance sheet, robust product suite, and experienced management team, is well positioned to survive the current weakness in capital spending and to take advantage of an acceleration in telecommunications capital expenditures.
