I was always using my own money, so WDIK? -gg-

Thanks, William. I know that when I post the type of commentary which contains a broad stroke of overly simplified generalizations, that I should expect responses similar to yours. We can always find numerous examples of business 'failures' which have little to do with regulations or regulators and where the common shareholders (or tax payers) are left holding the proverbial bag-o-$hit at the end of each tale. Unfortunately, I believe that we also find too many situations where very powerful people and/or organizations have failed to do their job and/or duty until the situations have gone past the point of no return.

Yesterday, Computer Associates (CA) got an analyst upgrade, though the link to the upgrade seems to have disappeared from Yahoo. I know because I was short the stock.

Today, it is revealed that CA is under investigation by the SEC. The insiders there have sold tons and tons of stock over the past several years.

I have to look at that upgrade as nothing more than an escape for some of the brokerage firm's trapped longs, same as the Enron upgrade that ML did when that stock was at $10. I surely hope some analysts go to jail for their actions, but I'm not holding my breath. Trading is hard enough without these guys scamming everyone. JMHO.
