Bellicose words, les francais, Islamic neutrality? Do you think anybody sold TIF short today thinking about that? (Well, I sure didn't, I shorted TIF because I believe it will go down. It did, and I believe it will go down more.) Smart guys knew all along, but now even the dummies are beginning to understand, that the bedrock of Wall Street, GE and IBM, have been playing accounting games all along, managing earnings to hit their numbers, throwing things like acquisition gains and losses into the mix to hit that 86 cents in the quarter. In the notorious words of Michael Lewis, "Some folks are just born to be CUSTOMERS." Or maybe it's like that old joke about the woman who goes to an academic party dressed in a scoop-front dress. The economics professor observes her goods on display and asks, "How delightful, would you go to bed with me for a million dollars?" Flattered, she blushes and responds, "Why, yes, I would." "Okay, how about a quickie in the den for fifty bucks?" "What do you take me for, a whore?" "Well, we've already established that, we're just determining price now." So, we all knew ENE was a whore, and now we're discovering that the grand matrons at the ball, GE & IBM, have been pulling tricks all along. George Bush's choice of words, indeed. Harrumph. Put together accounting and the VIX, and I don't know why anybody would go long (or not get out) for a while here. And Dabummy is talking about fundamentals? Hoo law, or was that Pooh-yie? My sources tell me things don't look any better tomorrow, and they tell me George's visits to Panmunjom and Yongsan Army base have gotta nada to do wid it. Kb
