Yep, and carriers like LWIN could have national roaming without having to get alot of agreements with other carriers, thus boosting them to the same level as their competitors...

With G* as part of the chip, could service operators could stop/ reduce the requisite base stations? Service would switch to G* once out of range of pre-existing technology, much like analog does for dual mode phones? Yes, but .... and it's a big but - the chip needs to be connected to a very big antennae. Now, if you live in a rural area, you might be willing to make the trade off. that assumes, of course, that most of your rural calling is outdoors, and you have an antennae on your car. The real answer for a G* terrestrial tie up will no doubt await the FCC decision on terrestrial spectrum for MSS. Pierre
