Paul,
"are you really in Cannes?"

Yes, 3GSM really is the biggest wireless/cellular show in the world. It was tough to see all the great handset technology being rolled out only to know the coolest stuff probably will be in Japan and Europe long before it appears in my stores in the Western US. I'm jealous! If anyone has access to mmO2 network (spin-out of BT) in Europe, look for the new XDA PDA/phone - very cool and slim (and SA1110 based). I think I heard that this device will be offered in the VoiceStream network in the US by summer.

Canne is a pretty cool spot to have a tradeshow and I'll admit to feeling a little spoiled being here, but I didn't pick the show location, just thankful to those who did. Today was a beautiful day here. Its a great spot to network with the industry as the who's who of this space all seems to be walking around. You can get meetings with people that might otherwise take weeks to arrange just by stopping by their booths or boats (many of the big companies rent large boats for meeting space here). The boats are all lined up along the pier outside the convention center (there's probably 50 of these huge yachts with logo banners plastered all over them). Companies rent them for the week and have a constant stream of meetings on them - the boats never leave the pier.

Siemens even rented a cruise ship and anchored it in the harbor - they were ferrying people back and forth to it all week. They win the prize for most visible presence. (Hard to miss the cruise ship with a Siemens banner that runs the length of the hull sitting just off shore)

Leaving in the morning. To bad it takes ~20 hours of flying to get here and ~20 more to get home.

Regards and Bonsoir,
jh
