9/11 was caused by lax security, airplanes with open cockpits that were easily turned into guided missiles loaded with 300,000+ lb. air-fuel bombs. It was enabled by greedy, corrupted American attitudes that ignored numerous warnings that airplanes,airports and borders needed to be more secure, that our CIA should not have built training camps and armed fundamentalist combatants in Afghanistan and then abandoned a poor and weakened population into the hands of anyone bent on turning them against us. The economy is failing because of our excesses and lack of attention to small details like making sure management isn't robbing companies blind and aren't putting them so deeply into debt that it will take a decade for many of them to dig their way out. Don't blame politicians alone for the problem. We elect politicians who tell us what we want to hear - that everything is just fine if you only trust them. The abuses in the economy may have been a have fun now, pay for it latter attitude easily characterized by the Teflon Don Bill Clinton, but both he and George Bush are just actors in the play, not creators of it. We are all part of problem and eventually the solution to a more robust economy.
