Excellent - much applies to the current discussion

To agree with:

- "Fascism is difficult to recognize because ... its nature is masked behind collective denial."

- "What is ironic is that those today who do adhere to the major beliefs of fascism would be extremely belligerent if referred to as a "fascist."

"Contemporary mass politics is very different from the
democratic ideals of Madison and Jefferson. Instead of
rational analysis of issues and reasoned debate, our
political discourse turns on image manipulation through
the mass media. The electronic media has created a
genuine mass culture. Visual images take the place of
language; emotionalism takes the place of logic.
Politics is trivialized; citizens are manipulated, but
they are molded into a common will. This was Goebbels's
dream." P. 12,13."

To disagree with:
- "...one is not a fascist unless he adheres to the entire corpus of ideas."

The important aspects of the state of belief of fascism as promoted by Mussolini is the belief in an all-powerful state over the importance of the citizen, which leads to suppressing dissent, trivialization of human life, and justification of secrecy among the totalitarian mandarins in charge, among other things.

Especially control of information, the media and political debate.

I.e., some sort of secret but richly-funded "Office of Domestic Influence", say ...

Hi JEB,

Interesting post. In particular, I see many echoes of these attributes among the current crop of corporate elitists and their mandarins in the government.

"The Nazi attempt to eliminate the weak and unfit can be traced directly to the writings of Nietzsche..... The famed Nazi cruelty can likewise be traced to Nietzsche's criticism of Christ's teaching of loving the downtrodden."

Nietschze has been described as believing that his "Superman" was beyond good and evil. That self-satisfaction was the end all and the be all of life. That the notions of ethics and morality simply didn't apply to the "Superman". Much of the behavior of the likes of GWB's bosom buddy Kenny Boy, Jeff "see no evil" Skilling, and Andy Fast One can well be viewed as manifestations of this feral zombie psychopathic personality type.

Oy vey, the friends this Shrub keeps.

Cordially, Ray
