" Seems like any company that gets too close to IBM's crown jewels eventually...dies. Good thing to keep in mind when considering investments."

Refresh my memory of where Intel sees Itanium competing in the next 5 years...

Tony - Re: "Seems like any company that gets too close to IBM's crown jewels eventually...dies. Good thing to keep in mind when considering investments."

SUN's problems are not due to IBM - they are due to their own poor execution - their UltraSparc II with NO ECC on their cache brought down their customers' systems in well publicized manner.

Their 2 1/2 year delay in getting UltraSparc /// to market left them with very little performance enhancements for their customers.

And their JAVA efforts are sinking tons of dollars and not generating any revenue for SUN.
