Yes, I'll grant you that. AMD is ok, and probably in a better position now than they ever have been. But they are no more of a competitive threat to Intel than when they launched the K7, and despite having a much inferior performer (the Katmai), Intel still managed to avoid defeat (by later launching the Coppermine). Now, Intel already has a great performer (the Northwood), and AMD has missed their big chance for a coup by slipping Hammer's time to market by almost a year. Now, in 2003, they will have a good product, rather than the great product they needed to get that 30% MSS.
