Yeah, I've said we need telecom too because it's such a trickle down effect.

But I've also said we need tech overall for the general economy to be healthy for the same reason. So if we don't get telecom and therefore don't get the rest of the tech sector, then it follows that the general economy can't recover either.

So where does that leave us? We better get the telcos in better shape and how can that be done on it's own? I don't think it can. Debt is getting worse in many telcos not better (due to the downgrading of debt and therefore higher interest paid to service it). Greenspan can't fix interest rates if the banks are tightening and obviously some banks were too loose and have their own headaches to worry about.

Congress doesn't want to do anything.

I guess only time will heal and many companies will die off with the strong (who were smart enough to hoard cash when they had it) will live to eat up the weaklings.

In the end, we should be much better off, but it sure looks like it's a bitter pill to swallow.
