Let me give you an example of knowledgeability and objectivity. As you know, I worked in a local McGovern campaign office as a teenager, as an unpaid volunteer. When I started, I said to some co- workers that, of course, McGovern would lose, but if he got close, it might have a significant effect on the political dialogue. They objected, saying "how can you be so sure?" I pointed out that the previous election, the votes were almost evenly divided between Nixon and Humphrey, with the remainder going to George Wallace. With Wallace out of the race, where would most of his votes go? To Nixon. If one listened to acquaintances, McGovern was generally despised, and there was no evidence the electorate had become markedly more liberal. Plus, even some Humphrey supporters might cross over, since Humphrey was widely quoted as seeing McGovern as a danger to our defense posture. They were appalled at the dispassionate analysis. However, I worked as hard or harder than anyone else in the office......

History will be kinder to Nixon. Clinton will slip to last, imo, as his propagandists continue to lose interest in defending the indefensible.
