Dave RE...This is a good point, but starts a slippery slope. Who decides what a negative ad is? <<<<<<<<

Any add which tries to tell you the position of someone else. Period. Any advertiser can state his position, he just can't state or imply what the other person's position is.

It is bad public policy because unenforecable laws are bad public policy; you can't effectively require people to tell the truth. <<<<<<

Hogwash, there are truth in advertising laws. Make the politicians live by the same laws they require every other advertiser to live by. Tell the truth, or don't say it. Now I realize you can't force a person to not lie about himself, or his position ,(that is the job of an open press) but you can stop him from lying about the other persons position.

Bill Clinton proved this beyond any question<<<<<

Clinton proved beyond question he was a liar, he didn't prove everyone else is or should be.
