Many organizations, like Gallup, disclose their questions and describe methodology. Others rely upon their reputation for accuracy in predicting elections or consumer preferences. But it always good to take things with a grain of salt, and use polls as non- conclusive evidence, especially if not cross- corroborated. During the election, I used to post an array of polls, frequently, so that people could view changes and discrepancies.

Anyway, the comment about the "stupid people" (perhaps more properly the ignorant) is a good hypothesis for an anomalous result. It has been shown time and again that there are a substantial number of people around who know very little history, geography, or civics......
