Upgrade for KLIC from Briefing.com: 8:39AM Opening Indications : Futures market on the defensive in response to BofA estimate cuts on Intel (INTC), a Q2 revenue warning from CIENA (CIEN), and a report in the NY Post that 12 top officials at Cisco (CSCO) did not properly disclose their investment interests in a Silicon Valley partnership that benefitted from its ties to CSCO... Presently, the S&P futures are about 0.50 points below fair value while the Nasdaq 100 PMI is down 9 points

8:32AM ATI Tech gaining share on NVIDIA: Bear Stearns (ATYT) 11.41: Bear Stearns out of Asia says that ATYT is gaining mkt share on NVDA, and advises selling NVDA and buying ATYT.

"There continues to be a high level of uncertainty surrounding service providers' near-term spending. In our ongoing conversations with our customers we continue to receive indications of further deployment delays. We recently received information that leads us to believe that two of our historically most important customers may purchase significantly less from us than they had previously indicated. As a result, co now expects Q2 rev in the neighborhood of $110 million (consensus $148.54 mln)

7:38AM Kulicke & Soffa upped at Merrill Lynch (KLIC) 16.26: Merrill Lynch upgrades to Near-Term BUY from Neutral based on the likelihood of strong bonder orders in the coming quarters; co is seeing a pickup in the test and wirebonder segments, and is optimistic about the June qtr, when the new Maxium bonder should raise avg selling prices and margins.

8:40AM : Futures market on the defensive in response to BofA estimate cuts on Intel (INTC 31.44), a Q2 revenue warning from CIENA (CIEN 8.70), and a report in the NY Post that 12 top officials at Cisco (CSCO 16.69) did not properly disclose their investment interests in a Silicon Valley partnership that benefitted from its ties to CSCO... Presently, the S&P futures are about 0.50 points below fair value while the Nasdaq 100 PMI is down 9 points...

Separately, initial claims rose 10K to 383K, which was higher than the 375K consensus but still leaves claims comfortably in the sub-400K area, and thus, this report will have no market impact... The Trade gap fell to $25.3 bln, which was below the $28.5 bln consensus and is good news, but the market has shown little interest in the trade data of late

7:24AM Intel: BofA cuts estimates due to weakening visibility (INTC) 31.44: Banc of America says that checks with motherboard vendors and channel participants reveal that visibility into the month of March and beyond has weakened; in addition, the formerly tight supply of processors also began to loosen towards the end of Jan, which could lead to weaker pricing. Firm believes that the current qtr is on track, but that June qtr consensus est is too high; trims ests for June qtr to $0.12 from $0.14 and Sept qtr to $0.16 from $0.18.
