OT> It is a little desperation indeed. However, the Canadian press/public have fixed these outlandish expectations that "anything short of Gold will be a disappointment". Far too great expectations for the parody we now see in O Hockey. Gretzky's trying to attach whatever underdog label he can to the Canadians to get them moving. Also, remember that this is a new role entirely and he's never failed at anything related to hockey in his life. Yup, he's feeling some pressure! Thank you Belarus!

OT** Its a tough one John. I have read some pretty nasty chit about the team in the American press, but up here too. IMO there is some truth to his comments, but the only ones who really want to see Canada lose are the other players. More importantly, there is more pressure on Gretzky than you could ever imagine up here. This is the most important sporting event to Canada, possibly ever. Especially after the Nagano debacle.

Its gold or nothing or Gretz and Co, however unrealistic that demand may be.
