You didn't ask me, but I'll throw my two cents in. Juniper is done for. They will either be acquired or go out of business within two years. Ciena is a great company but nowhere near the breadth as Cisco. LU and NT have been squashed flat and may resurrect a few years hence, but are dead meat for the next several years. The company that will dethrone Cisco isn't recognizeable today and may not even exist yet.

Paul

I don't think any of those can knock off Cisco now.

Before LU acquired Ascend I thought that they might do it but they just couldn't move fast enough. NT had it's chance and they were migrating to the new medium but they stumbled big time so now Cisco doesn't have a single big competitor with deep enough pockets to compete.

LU really had a brain trust but they couldn't shift enough gears fast enough to exploit those patents. Ciena and JNPR are not wide enough to compete across the boards. JNPR is too concentrated to be a threat. In fact JNPR is going to have trouble surviving if they don't spread out their product mix.

Cisco commands this space. I'm just wondering how much time will transpire before the "old" communications infrastructure adopts IP system wide. It's only a matter of time.

JMHO

Eric
