Worden Notes 2/20/02...

One-Day Reversal?

A remarkable turnaround today. It has the elements of a one-day reversal, except that ODR is something that generally happens after a decline of some length – at least longer than this, which started on February 13. We must allow for the possibility, though.
Notice that MoneyStream has formed a little positive divergence under the SP-500. The Dow, the strongest of the three major averages, has a strong TSV, in gear with the price. The SP-500 pattern could become unequivocally strong or unequivocally weak very quickly -- like tomorrow.
On the other hand, it would not be easy for the Dow to turn unequivocally bearish tomorrow. It would not be hard for the Dow to break above the February high tomorrow, setting the stage for a thrust to a new high for the year. Taking the Dow chart alone, ignoring other market segments, it is also worth noting that 19 of the 30 Dow stocks have positive BOP. This compares to the Nasdaq 100, which has only 39. The SP-500 just tipped above the 50 percent mark today with 52.
So the Nasdaq remains the weak sister, but it is not having the detrimental effect on the Dow and SP-500 that I was expecting.
What it comes down to is that the market is surprising me out of my socks. I have no control over that. The main thing is not to let my preconceived ideas paralyze me into an inflexible position. This market can surprise me all it wants to. I'm willing to change my mind just as often as is necessary. –DW
