Okay, as long as we are on the same page in our understanding of the use of the term. I will not object to saying that there are ridiculous "one world" sentiments floating around the "elites".

I liked the column, with a few objections. First, Brooks is a conservative writer, or was the last time I checked. It is probable that he was being somewhat tongue in cheek. Second, most of us in suburban Blue Country, with families and normal worries, voted for George Bush. In my county, Anne Arundel, even HW won in '92 by a majority. And it is not especially rural, there are plenty of commuters into Washington and Baltimore. Third, Brooks is really talking about a social cohort that is more prevalent in coastal cities, but not precisely geographical. Last, but not least, I think the author may, implicitly, be a little too hostile to those of us who don't watch football or idolize Chuck Norris. I feel caught in the middle......
