**FULL HOUSE (but I don't grub)** I can't stomach most of the twaddle on the Donkey and Enron threads, but I do wonder if those paragons of virtue have been busy exposing and denouncing the hypocrisy of Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA).

I seem to remember someone touting Cantwell as an example of the new politics, largely because of her ability to self-fund her campaign and oft-repeated promise to the citizens of Washington that she would be beholden to no special interests because she did not accept PAC money.

Not sure it has been mentioned here, but it turns out she didn't really self-fund her campaign: she just lent it the money until after election day. Then this Senator-beholden-to-no-one invited almost every PAC in DC to a great big party at Hillary Clinton's house. All of the money raised went directly into her pocket (debt repayment). Of the hundreds of thousands raised that night, I hear that Russ Feingold is the only one who wrote a personal check. The rest came from those terrible evil PAC people.

Of course, Cantwell actually benefited from PAC money before the election, what with "independent" expenditures by Emily's List, the Sierra Club, and the AFL-CIO. Oh, I forgot, those aren't "special interests" because they are on the "right" side of the issues. Only the likes of the evil NRA or Chamber of Commerce (or any group giving money to a Republican) need to have their free speech curtailed and ability to support candidates suppressed.
