"For XP or MP? "

Currently they make, actually fab out to UMC, 760MP and 760MPX chipsets.

"Are the new announcement chipsets for desktop or MP/workstation, etc.? "

Good question. Probably the workstation market, at least for the PCI/X chip.

"other thing is, is this a very late change in infrastructure development plans between AMD and the chipset vendors?"

No. They just learned their lesson with the original K7. They need to have a chipset when they introduce a new processor. And then, if the other chipset companies respond, they stop pushing the product, like they did with the 760 chipset.

Tony - Re: ", like I posted before, AMD does, did already seem to have a helluva lot on its plate, even compared with Intel (just considering CPU chip related development, process and manufacturing). This seems to overload the plate some more. Just an observation."

This is an excellent observation.

The Hamster is > 1 year late; the ThoroDead is over 1 or 2(?) quarters late - and here's AMD - trying to come up with 3 new chips with 500 - 900 pins per chip !!!

A recipe for disaster.
