So tell us? Did the partnerships incur and hide material amounts of debt ala ENE? Or were the partnerships a vehicle to get the acquisitions done? Which is often common practice?

Interesting facts here on who calls what shots on investments. Read this from the latest (2001 AGM) prospectus: The Acquisition Committee reviews acquisition strategies and candidates with the Company's management, approves acquisitions valued below a specified dollar threshold and also makes recommendations to the Board of Directors. This Committee met on two separate occasions during the last fiscal year. This Committee currently consists of Messrs. Valentine, Chambers, Morgridge and Sarin and Ms. Bartz. 1997This Committee currently consists of Messrs. Valentine, Chambers, Morgridge and Puette. 1998This Committee currently consists of Messrs. Valentine, Chambers, Morgridge and Puette. 1999This Committee currently consists of Messrs. Valentine, Chambers, Morgridge, Puette and Sarin. 2000This Committee currently consists of Messrs. Valentine, Chambers, Morgridge, and Sarin and Ms. Bartz. The Special Acquisition Committee reviews acquisition strategies and candidates with the Company's management, approves acquisitions valued below a specified dollar threshold and also makes recommendations to the Board of Directors. This committee held four meetings during the last fiscal year. The Committee currently consists of Messrs. Chambers and Kozel and Ms. Bartz. ...
