The price-tag is depending on mainly 2 parameters:

1) the cost for making such a software

2) the domain (the expected number of copy that will be sold)

The publisher is the Internet bank and they collect 20% but could be half coop(half the net profit would be deposit in proportion of last year buying to all member that used the system in the year), half profit-oriented co. The very main problem is the credibility of the bank. Certainly not a USA bank<GGG>. It won't take long to freeze those asset as a terrorist org. targeting good capitalist USA bank.<GGG>

For example, winzip could be a 20¢ prog. because at least 50% need winzip and $10M is a fare price for winzip.

A program like warftp could be targeting less than 1% and charge $2 for example. A lot better than freeware anyway. Could have made $1M to $2M maybe. If I send him a $2 check it will cost him that $2 just to cash the check.

Of coarse, this imply no more pirate use of those prog. But at this price, who would bother getting a warez. Activation of any such program would be made via Internet and would run a validity check insuring that all programs already installed in the target computer have been paid. This validity check would be constantly changing and made by the Internet Bank, not the program author.

The big saving is to remove any cost for publishing and collecting fee to the author. Kind of evolved winfile web site.

It don't apply to all software but there should be place for penny-type software.
