John, Re: "This move to below 30 on the speculation of some Taiwan motherboard mfrs. is really overdone. The NAZ is down 42+ on this one speculative note."

I think it also has to do with this.

Didn't Joe Osha just upgrade INTC a week or so ago? This move to below 30 on the speculation of some Taiwan motherboard mfrs. is really overdone.

John, Ciena warned this morning, which takes down the whole network crowd. Two biggies like that, in spite of Joseph's encouraging words, will destroy the Naz every time. Fortunately, nowadays, it's sometimes only for a day.

That B of A guy is new, I think. They usually have Rick Whittington analyze semis. That guy trying to make a name for himself?

Tony

ps, John, Wanna, this was one redundant post. :-(

John, "Didn't Joe Osha just upgrade INTC a week or so ago?" Per Merrill Lynch on 1/31/02 “Our analysis indicates that the PC supply chain exited the fourth quarter of 2001 with inventory at five-year lows relative to revenue. Low inventory should underwrite solid volume growth in Q1 and Q2 even if demand is only mediocre.”

Personally I think that the B of A call had its negative effect today.

What is interesting about the B of A call is that it does not effect the current quarter. B of A lowered the earnings for the year 2002. Intel recently said that the first quarter guidance had not changed. Thus B of A couldn’t reduce Q1 earnings when Intel just reaffirmed them. Now how on earth can anyone predict the rest of the year? Nostradamus couldn’t even predict sales for this year’s Christmas season. I think someone made lots of bucks on the down side today.

This is not the first time this kind of thing has happened, more like mucho, and also presented buying opportunities.

What a coincidence that the BoA warning comes out when the market is already suffering from enronitis. People must have learned Merril Flynch skills real quick :-)
