You sound like a real isolationist. Shouldn't we be encouraging capitalism and moderate governments everywhere?

We're not "giving" the Saudis dollars. We're engaging in mutually beneficial economic transactions, with a more moderate government than most in the region -- despite their negatives, of which there are a number.

They're also something of a stabilizing influence in the region and among oil producing countries, both politically and economically.

If we want Saudi Arabia to become another Iraq or Iran - or Afghanistan, where the Taliban and Al Qaeda might likely resurface and regroup, overthrowing the government there and having Mecca and Medina as pulpits to preach hatred from to 1 billion Muslims worldwide - we should do as you say. Where are we going to base our military operations the next time they're needed in 2010 or so? Afghanistan?

Because the Muslim extremists hate our culture and what we stand for, and because tv and radio waves circle the globe, they'll fight us until we kill them or they kill us, or one or both of us change.

Cutting off business and political ties with Saudi Arabia ain't the solution.
