Milo, Re: "This error occurs when a .obj file is generated by a compiler front end (C1.dll) that targets one processor, such as x86, IA64, or AMD64, but is being read by a back end (C2.dll) that targets a different processor."

Your "proof" is hardly worthy of conjecture. Whomever wrote this error description could easily have thrown 'AMD64' out as an example, or could even have been speaking of AMD's 32-bit compatibility mode.

The most compelling proof that Microsoft is not doing an x86-64 Windows port is that they haven't announced any intention to do so. I agree that it would be great news for AMD if they did, but it is looking more and more like Microsoft is turning a cold shoulder on AMD's instruction extension.
