Tekboy,

I predict that within a year of this thing shipping, these devices will be ubiquitous

Your brother appears to be a typical tech investor who thinks product will be adopted about five to ten times faster than what will actually happen. :)

It is so steady, you can't fall off. The first shipments will be in a couple of months to the post office and police departments.

I heard that the initial Florida Postal Service trials were now over. The test units had a limiter on them to keep the top speed down to 6 or 8mph. The test was a success, but there was one case where a user did fall off. It was a spot where pavement met gravel. The user was not hurt, and neither was the machine, and a spokesperson said that sometimes, people who are walking fall too.

I've heard this Story before.
The wide-eyed wonder
The amazing technology
The breathless press releases
The predictions it will "change everything".
Everyone will need one, or three.
The only problem will be ramping up production fast enough to be FirstToMarket, to meet the exploding demand.
It will make us healthy, and save energy, and solve Third World poverty. Empower the masses. Maybe cure acne and bad breath.

This reminds me so much of satellite phones.

I predict I'll put the Segway in my Museum of Amazing Technology That No One Bought. It'll fit in nicely, right beside the Globalstar phone.

Wow, sounds like my $150 bicycle -- which doubles as an exercise machine.
