Not true. Between the 9th and 13th centuries, the only people doing decent work in science, philosophy or medicine were Muslims. However, I will agree that hard-core, orthodox Islam is probably not conducive to science and math, as is true of all religions.

Herein lies the problem, IMHO - pernicious clerics with various agendas. Not knowing much about it, I would guess that the Hadith has more of the "bad" stuff in it than the Koran, since it was written later, with more time for corruption to set in.
