I'm not necessarily sceptical of your approach, my friend. You answered a post I made to someone else, I replied. I think it's pretty darn nifty that we can discuss it.

When you look at the basis for these [TA] rules, however, it becomes clear that they are based on very elementary principles that don't have much theoretical basis.

Yes and no. TA is a very wide field of study. And I 'll give you your point about the perceived lack of what you call "theoretical basis"; or what we might call a high percentage of TA flakesters, or too many Free Prizes and not enough Sugar Pops, or falling off the Stupid TA Nut Tree and hitting Vulnerable Points against every branch on the way down, or consuming not enough or a few too many fermented malt beverages flavored with Real Lemon, or one of any number of similar metaphors. Narf.

I humbly submit that empirical evidence of high predictive ability assumes a basis in a valid theory.

Some people can do it. Not only that, it can be learned.

Corrolary: (regarding the buying and selling of securities for the purpose of increasing net worth) If one does not make money consistently, or if one lose's one's grubstake altogether to someone else who does, then one is either empirically demonstrating a significant lack of predictive ability, or working for a brokerage firm, or both.

Well, you've heard the story of the hot rod race,
When the Ford and the Caddie were settin' the pace.
That story's true I'm here to say,
Cause I was a'drivin' that Model A.

It's got a Lincoln motor and it's really souped up;
That Model A body makes it look like a pup.
It's got 8 cylinders and uses them all;
And an overdrive that just won't stall.

It's got a 4-barrel carb and dual exhausts,
with 4:11 gears you can really get lost -
It's got safety tubes and I'm not scared,
The brakes are good and the tires are fair.

We rolled out of San Pedro late one night;
The moon and the stars were shinin' bright.
We were drivin' up that Grapevine Hill,
Passin' cars like they were standin' still.

Then, all of a sudden, in the wink of an eye,
a Cadillac sedan passed me by.
I said to the boys, "That's the mark for me."
But, by then, the taillights wuz all you could see.

Well, the fellas all ribbed me for bein' behind,
So I decided to make that Lincoln unwind.
I took my foot off the gas and man alive,
I shoved her on down into overdrive.

I wound her up to 110
My speedometer said that I'd hit top end.
I had my foot glued right down to the floor;
I said, "That's all there is - and there ain't no more."

Now the fellas thought I'd lost all sense;
The telephone poles looked like a picket fence.
They said, "Slow down, I see spots.
"The lines on the road just looked like dots."

Went around a corner and passed a truck;
I crossed my fingers just for luck -
The fenders were clickin' the guard rail posts;
My shotgun buddy was white as a ghost.

Smoke was rollin' outta the back
When I started to gain on that Cadillac
I knew I could catch her and thought I could pass
But when I did I'd be short on gas.

There were flames comin' from out of the side;
You could feel the tension; man, what a ride.
I said, "Look out, boys, I've got a license to fly"
And the Cadillac pulled over and let me by.

All of a sudden a rod started knockin';
Down in the depths she started a rockin'.
I looked in the mirror and a red light was blinkin';
The cops was after my Hot Rod Lincoln.

Well they arrested me and put me in jail.
I called my pop to make my bail.
He said, "Son, you're gonna drive me to drinkin',
If you don't quit drivin' that

Hot ... Rod ... Lincoln"
