a question of leaving essential material out to score a point
essential?
All you had to do was tell that CNN had reported that potassium ferrocyanide could yield a lethal gas,
What makes that essential? Ignorance is no excuse at this point since I have provided ample evidence that that was just a tidbit of information gleaned from the packing material. None of the articles makes any pretense that the individuals had acid. They obviously didn't know what chemicals they were looking for. There is no reason to believe they have the kind of equipment necessary to react the acid with the ferrocyanide and collect and crystalize the resulting gas. If you don't like or believe my evidence you have had time to do some checking yourself by now.

or that the LA Times had said there was confusion about the composition of the material,
My quote of the LA Times began with Later and included tentatively identified . An alert reader might have figured out that something else was said "earlier" and that "tentatively identified" material indicated that there was a lack of certainty. I am sorry I overestimated your ability to follow the short quote.

It really doesn't matter if the police initially thought they had found Zyclon B, or some other agent. The key information which I added to the story that you originly reported was that the substance found was specificly potassium ferrocyanide and that it is less lethal than whatever they thought it was before. I did not say any part of your story was wrong or imply your translation was flawed.

There is apparently some thrill seeker need in the conservative community that wants the war on terrorism to pull us from the brink of another 9/11 disaster. I'm sorry if I rained on that particular parade but I'm personally happy to know that the shoe-bomber and Tunisian chemical engineers and the California Al Qeida recruits are rather inept. I hope that is representative of the entire remaining organization and not just those easily captured.
